Welcome Back to the Dojo Starting June 1st!

CSSD is excited to announce the reopening of our dojo facilities on Monday, June 1st!

The full schedule, along with new Zoom links for the online classes and links for the SignUp Genius class reservations, can be found in our Student Portal.

Important things to note as we move back into the dojos:
  • We will no longer be running the Zoom class schedule we’ve had for the past couple of months, but we will still be offering 5 days a week of online Zoom
classes – just at different times!  Please visit the Student Portal (see above) for the new Zoom class times & links.
  • In order to maintain the safest possible training environment for our instructors & students,  you will need to schedule your spot ahead of time for our in person classes via our online scheduler, which is available through SignUp Genius links on our student portal (see above).
For safety reasons we cannot accept drop-ins at this time, only pre-scheduled students may attend in-person classes.
General Guidelines for Class Participants
  • All class participants must reserve their class spot ahead of time via our scheduler (SignUp Genius) found in the Student Portal.
  • All class participants are required to wear masks.
  • At this time we are asking parents to drop their children off in front of each of the dojos, and wait for their child to be admitted in to the dojo before leaving. We will have 1 entrance and 1 exit at each of the dojo locations to prevent overlap of students. (See our drop off & pick up procedure videos below).
  • All class participants will have their temperature taken before entering the dojo by one of our instructors/staff members. (Students with temperatures of 100 or more will be asked to leave).
  • All class participants should maintain the social distancing guidelines which will be indicated by markers in each of the dojos.
  • All class participants should bring their own water & be dressed for class before arriving for class (Dojo locker rooms and water fountains are CLOSED)
  • There will be NO contact activities in classes.  Students will practice their  martial arts through kata, and “shadow partner” self defense drills.
  • Students will not share equipment.  If weapons for kata are needed, students will need to bring their own.

Friday, May 29th – Kids Belt Test Congratulations!

A hearty CONGRATULATIONS to all of the students who tested and earned new ranks in May!  You have all persevered under these unusual circumstances and proven your toughness as you have continued to train karate online!

The Belt Fairies have begun their deliveries and will continue to visit homes this week.

June 6th, 2020 ADULT Belt Test Information
As things have been constantly changing…the Chamberlain Studios Advisory Board have determined that the best course of action for the upcoming Adult Belt Test is to now run 2 options for the belt test based on each individual’s comfort level.  We will have one as an in-person, in the park, social distanced test, and the other ONLINE via Zoom. These tests will happen concurrently from 12pm – 3pm. These will be followed by a FULL GROUP Zoom meeting at 5pm that evening in order to congratulate everyone at once.
We understand that due to Covid-19 our normal training opportunities have been interrupted, and we hope that you are all well and safe at home!  We are striving to make as many ways as possible to help you in your training, and towards your goal of Black Belt through our online streaming classes, online archived curriculum, and private lessons.  However you do it, we hope that you are finding effective ways to train at home!
Our hope is that everyone is planning on testing, but because we are all separated at this time, and the instructors are not able to see everyone on a daily/weekly basis, we are requesting 2 things from those planning on testing.
  • Please take advantage of the opportunity to schedule 1x 15-minute private lesson with an instructor of your choice as soon as possible (remember, you get 1x per week!).  This is your opportunity to go over your material with the instructor and for the instructor to help you prepare for the test.
  • Book reports were due by Saturday, May 23rd!  These should be emailed in to the dojo at: Info@DallasKenpo.com.
  • As with every rank test, there will be testing fees.  These are $25 for ranks below Brown 3, and $35 for Brown 3 & higher.  Send Sensei Kellyn a message if you would like these fees to be run on the card we have on file for your tuition.
What should you expect at this test?
You know you won’t be tested on your skill as an Uke….so, be prepared to demonstrate each of your katas multiple times for different instructors, expect to demonstrate EVERYTHING required for your rank on the curriculum, and expect to explain what you are doing in such a way that shows you understand the techniques.  Instant recall is a must!
As always if you have specific questions or concerns regarding your training or the test, please get in touch with the dojo!

New Student Portal is Live!

For our active dojo members, all of our Live Streaming Classes, archived online classes, and curriculum information is housed in the Student Portal section of our website for both security purposes as well as to provide our members more value to their memberships!

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the shutdowns placed on the city because of it, more of our Ohana are finding themselves in need of help.  As a small business, we feel the crunch, but we are blessed to have the support of you, during this time.
