New Year's Day Workout and O-Soji

Since 2004, we have made it in to the dojo the day after New Year's Eve every year, to train together as a dojo, clean and prepare the school for the comming year, and to re-dedicate ourselves to our training.

The Workout:
On the first of the year we get together at 11am and workout for two hours, with the program being led by each of the head instructors from the different styles taught at Chamberlain Studios.  Typically there is 30 minutes each of:

  • Kodokan Judo
  • Heike Ryu Jiu-Jitsu
  • Aiki Jitsu
  • Gasan Ryu Kenpo

After the workout, we have a sake toast for the new year and take a few pictures.  Then it's on to O-Soji!

The O-Soji:
Soji means cleaning and O-Soji means a big cleaning!  We take the dojo apart and clean everything, replace any broken boards under the mats, scrub and clean the floor, walls and contents, and get ready for the new year with a renewed dedication to our training, our classmates and the dojo! 

After everything is done, we usually go and get a bite to eat at a local restaurant.  Come join us for some time well spent, it's okay if you are a little tired from the night before!
